In late November, the 18-year old piano virtuoso Behzod Abduraimov will join the Philips Symphony Orchestra (PSO).
The award winning pianist from Uzbekistan will be led by PSO's Jules van Hessen for his Netherlands debut.
As part of an autumn concert series, the star will perform as soloist for performances Saturday 28 November at the Frits Philips in Eindhoven and Sunday 29 November at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
The Dutch performances come after Abduraimov and his teacher Stanislav Ioudenitch wrap up four concerts at China’s Nanjing Music Festival, lasting from 25 October until 2 November.
In April of this year, the piano sensation won the prestigious London International Piano Competition. The youngest winner in the award’s history, Abduraimov amazed the jury and audience with his unparalleled virtuosity.
It was after his victory that Abduraimov embarked on this ambitious concert tour, with appearances including the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Abduraimov began his study with Tamara Popovich at the Uspensky State Central High School in Tashkent. His first solo performance was at the tender age of eight-years-old with the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan.
The young talent went on to perform for live audiences in the U.S., Italy and Russia. Among his accomplishments are First Prize and Grand Prix awards from the International Piano Competition “Le Mus” in Agropoli, Italy earned in 2003. In 2008, he won both the Lennox Young Artist Competition and the Corpus Christi International Competition.
Abduraimov currently studies under Stanislav Ioudenitch while also completing his Bachelor's Degree at the International Center for Music in Kansas City.
Philips Orchestra
In 1930, employees of the Philips group founded the Philips Orchestra Association. Since 1995, the organisation has been working under the Philips Symphony Orchestra title.
The orchestra members - some 100 amateur and (semi-) professional musicians – perform under conductor Jules van Hessen. The orchestra brings sophisticated symphonic music that offers an ideal platform for soloists. The versatility and professionalism of the Philips Symphony Orchestra performances is often compared to professional symphony orchestras.
The PSO has previously worked with Daniel Wayenberg, Theo Olof, Candy Dulfer, Emmy
Verheij, Wibi Soerjadi, Liza Ferschtman, Nino Gvetadze and Carel Kraayenhof.
