Widespread OV Chip Card fraud

A large-scale illegal trade in public transport cards has been uncovered by Rotterdam police. The scam was confirmed by the card's producer, Trans Link Systems on Wednesday.

The scam trade involves "hundreds of cards," said the spokesperson. The cards have had their balance manipulated, in some cases upwards of 150 euros of fraudulent funds appear on the cards. 

The cards are topped-up then sold online through websites like Marktplaats. 

Trans Link Systems said they previously knew cards were susceptible to this type of tampering, but this is the first time it has been discovered on such a large scale.
