The strippenkaart is now history

By The Holland Times Thursday 03 November 2011, 11:11

Thursday morning marks the end of strippenkaart payments for public transportation services. Riding Holland's buses, trams and metros will now require the use of the OV Chip Card.

The strippenkaart has been slowly phased out since the Chip Card's introduction in 2009, however it remained a valid form of payment until Wednesday night in all four provinces.

The strippenkaart was introduced in Holland in 1980. It was given a ceremonial burial on Thursday by employees at public transport association Rover.
