Most  Dutch women are satisfied working a part-time job. This was revealed Thursday after Professors Jan van Ours and Allison Booth published research on the topic.

Working with the University of Tilburg, the researchers found that over 50 percent of women between the ages of 25 and 54 work part-time in the Netherlands.

These figures sparked concern within the UN committee in charge of reviewing compliance with the women’s rights treaty. They expressed fear that women were being unfairly pigeonholed as part-time employees and thus discriminated against.

Booth and Van Ours found that part-time work for Dutch women is actually preferred by most, particularly those with a partner. The majority of women they interviewed said they initially wanted part-time jobs, and if given the opportunity would not change their hours. Part-time employees generally work 24-hours a week.
