More people than ever are using their holiday pay this year to pay of debts. This was revealed by a Nibud survey Tuesday.

Nibud's figures reveal that 13 percent of the Dutch are putting holiday bonuses toward unpaid bills or bank deficits. Last year, that figure was jus eight percent.

This month, holiday pay was used for travel and leisure by only 45 percent of those polled. That number is down four percent from last year.

Nearly one quarter of the Dutch who do go on vacation spend less than their holiday bonuses offer them.

More than half of those polled by Nibud know how much their holiday bonuses amount to. Those who did reported the sum to be around 1,500 euros.
