Summer start brings warm weather
By The Holland Times Monday 21 June 2010, 11:06
The summer season starts today at exactly 13,28 hours. According to the KNMI there is a "real chance" that this summer will be warmer than normal, with temperatures rising this week.
The day when summer starts is also the longest day of the year, determined on the basis of the astronomical calendar. The sun rose today at 5.19 hours and will set 16 hours and 45 minutes later, at 22.04 hours.
Warmer weather is expected this year compared to previous summers thanks to global warming, says the KNMI. Nevertheless, the experts do not predict whether it will actually feel warmer as this depends on the wind.
Next week the temperature is expected to shoot up. The mercury will gradually rise to about 28 degrees by the end of the week.
This year, summer ends on 23 September.
