Dutch road bicycle racer, Jacobus “Koos” Moerenhout will miss the upcoming Giro d'Italia. The Team Rabobank rider has been struggling with a respiratory infection and is still not fit enough to compete, the team announced Tuesday.
Tom Stamsnijder will take Moerenhout's place in the race, set to take off from Amsterdam on 8 May.
Moerenhout was to be the team's captian in the Giro, and has proven his championship record after taking first in last year's Tour of Austria. Stamsnijder is the son of former cyclo-cross world champion, Hennie Stamsnijder.
