Dutch disappointment at Euro 2012

By The Holland Times Mon. 18 June 2012

The Dutch squad for Poland and Ukraine's Euro 2012 competition has made history, but not in a way fans would like. This year's performance marks the first time that the Dutch team has failed to win even a single point before being knocked out.
Disappointing showings against Denmark, Germany and Portugal failed to win Oranje the points it needed to progress as loss after loss accumulated. Some comments have pointed to a lack of unity in Bert van Marwijk's team as a contributing factor to the defeats.
"We lost three times. It's a difficult thing to accept," winger Arjen Robben said to the Associated Press. "We have to dare to look at ourselves in the mirror: we all failed... Things happened in the squad, but we'll keep that between us."
The next time the Dutch squad takes to the pitch competitively will be in September, for a World Cup qualifier against Turkey. Whether the Oranje house will be more in order by then remains to be seen.
