Dutch go on holiday in response to defeat

By The Holland Times Tue. 19 June 2012

The Netherlands may have gotten knocked out of Euro 2012, but Dutch residents have already found a way to cheer themselves up; by going on holiday. Travel agency websites have reported a steep spike in traffic following the elimination. Holiday specialist Belvilla in particular experienced a 50 percent jump in traffic to their website in the immediate aftermath of the defeat.
Popular destinations for the Dutch to travel to this year include Provence, Tuscany, the Ardennes and, ironically, Portugal.
This increased interest may mean that fans have already decided what to do with their newfound extra time, and is good news for those in the travel industry. Not such good news for supermarkets, as millions of Oranje branded products are now almost worthless. Lidl in particular is donating its football themed food to foodbanks rather than even attempting to sell it at a discount.
