Utrecht municipality ignores speculation

By The Holland Times Fri. 27 July 2012

The city of Utrecht and the housing corporation Mitros have announced that they will not respond to ongoing speculation as to the origin of the asbestos that was recently released in the Utrecht neighbourhood of Kanaleneiland, reports Nu.nl.
A total of 174 families were forced to evacuate their homes last week when spray-on asbestos was discovered in buildings on the city's Stanleylaan. The families have been put up in hotels but it remains unclear when they will be able to return home.
Utrecht mayor, Aleid Wolfsen (PvdA) has announced that an investigative committee will be set up to find out how the asbestos came to be there. A spokesperson also commented that the committee will investigate exactly what type of asbestos is involved, but that no speculation will be entertained until that time.
