The Groene Hart Hospital leaks medical records
By The Holland Times Mon. 8 October 2012
Dozens of medical records and data of hundreds of thousands of patients from the Green Heart Hospital in Gouda have been accessible over the internet on a barely secured computer, reports De Volkskrant.
The news came from the Dutch Federation of Patients and Consumer (Nederlandse Patienten Consumenten Federatie, NPCF). The director Wilna Wind described the fact as "very alarming" and added that "patients must be assured that medical information is carefully handed."
Data of 493,000 people, including address, date of birth, telephone number and Social Security number, together with medical details, such as radiographs, heart films and laboratory results are stored in a datacenter from a provider that is easily accessible online, warned the NPCF.
The news was worrisome and on Sunday the NPCF called on politics to take measures to prevent this from happening again.
